Kronos Records is thrilled to work once again with Oscar-winning composer RACHEL PORTMAN (Emma, Legend Of Bagger Vance, Chocolat, Oliver Twist, The Cider House Rules, Still Life) and Private Peaceful) This time is the turn of Shamim Sarif`s 2012 espionage drama DESPITE THE FALLING SNOW, starring Rebecca Ferguson, (who portrays two characters) Charles Dance, Anthony Head, and Sam Reid.
DESPITE THE FALLING SNOW details the story of Lauren, a female spy who steals secrets from an idealistic politician and ends up falling in love with him. Rachel Portman blends seamlessly poignant, soft, nuances and themes with intense and jagged sounds for this dramatic, romantic, mystery film. The varying musical colours and textures compliment one another as well as underlining and adding dynamics to the developing situations and the more intimate and personal storylines that are unfolding on screen.
The score for Despite The Falling Snow, is probably one of Rachel Portman’s most haunting works, it may not have the obvious delicate and melodious flourishes that we hear in other scores such as The Cider House Rules but does have a wealth of gracious yet chilling musical statements, which can be just as affecting, tantalising, and expressive.
