In collaboration with Gruppo Sugar, Music Box Records is pleased to present on the same CD two original motion picture soundtracks composed and conducted by Claude Bolling for Jean Girault's films: L’Année sainte (Holy Year) (1976) and Le mille-pattes fait des claquettes (1977).

L’Année sainte tells the story of Max Lambert (Jean Gabin), a former gangster chief who escapes from a prison with his cellmate, Pierre Bizet (Jean-Claude Brialy). They travel to Rome and intend to profit the mass pilgrimage of the Holy Year to recover Max's hidden stash of money. Claude Bolling has composed a very nostalgic score by using a harmonica for the main melody. The music alternates between cool sound of the seventies (electric guitar and drums), parodic church music (organ) suspenseful and psychedelic moods (flute, wah-wah guitar) and his brilliant use of jazzy vibe.

Le mille-pattes fait des claquettes tells the story of a trio of young men (Francis Perrin, Roger Mirmont and Jean-Jacques Moreau) who, during the Second World War, are determined to steal from Goering the Venus de Milo, which he is sending to the Louvre. Claude Bolling has written a score with eclectic moods between big band music and a military march, essential components of any good film that has the Second World War as backdrop.

Limited to 350 units, this release has been fully remastered from the session tapes and includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the film and the score.
